Ethereal Denver musician Midwife releases a haunting cover of ‘Send The Pain Below’ by grunge band Chevelle. A seemingly unlikely choice for a cover, Midwife’s has described her own music as "heaven metal" and is much more akin to artists like Grouper than the post-grunge sound of Chevelle. However, this is what makes the cover so effective; it deviates heavily from the original, channelled through Midwife’s minimal, atmospheric, reverb drenched arrangements and production to create something new and genuinely beautiful. The track is part of a wider series of covers curated by her label The Flenser, in which contemporary bands reimagine late 90s and early 00s grunge and nu-metal tracks.- Toby Evans-Jesra
